Automated Google translation
I don't know if you have noticed it, but when you do a Google search
nowadays, you often get a [Translate this page] link. I can really
recommend that you try this new function. It does a really good job
even at this early stage. Far better than e.g. Babelfish or the Asian
suppliers of electronic equipment with their auto-translated manuals.
The good news is, that we can all help making it better correcting
the mistakes it makes. Enter the text to translate here:

... and then correct the mistakes at that same page.
Even a very difficult language like Swedish gets translated with
almost perfect grammar (albeit many words are still missing in the
dictionary). The German and French translations are actually really
good. I now have visited a couple of Spanish sites that I previously
had some difficulty following (my Spanish is rather rusty), but
thanks to Google I finally could fully enjoy those sites.

A new nodelist-distribution

Anomalies that are sometimes encountered in the nodelist due to a
software malfunction, a manipulation error and anything else up to an
act of God are a real annoyance as the update for such a problem will
have to wait for at least a week when the next diff is issued.
To circumvent this, in zone-2 this week we will launch a new project
where a new full nodelist without a diff will be issued "every" single
day. This will be done parallel to Friday's regular nodelist/nodediff
production which will continue as before.
The real change is that whomever links in to the new distribution will
have a full raw uncompressed nodelist "every" day. The advantage of
this approach is that participants do not have to deal with inserting
diffs plus that today's problem will be taken care of tomorrow.
The name of the file-echo that will be made available is DAILYLST and
it will be hatched by 2:292/854. Hatching will be at 00h15 daily local
time.
The name of the file that will be transported is NODELIST with as
suffix the Julian-date for that specific day.
To link-in to this file-echo... I do not run a file-echo processor,
but anyone expressing interest can get it by simply requesting the
link and I'll fix it manually. If we do not have already an
established link, then you will need to provide a password for it.
Preferably send such a password as an email to 'wd-at-skynet-dot-be'.

FTSC standing member election, call for nominations.

An election for FTSC standing members starts on Sunday 27th of
September 2009 at 20:00 UTC..
As per FTA-1000.002 the number of FTSC members should be no less than
7 and no more than 30. Of the present 16 members, 7 of them had their
term expire on August 17th 2009. That leaves room for a maximum of
30-(16-7)=21 new members to be elected.

3.2 FTSC Standing Members

FTSC members are appointed for a two year renewable term. [50 % of
appointments on initial formation of the FTSC shall be for a 3 year
renewable term, to ensure continuity of the Committee on expiry of
the terms.]
To be selected as a FTSC member, an individual must be a Fidonet
node, and should be actively involved in Fidonet. Examples include
having put out a Fidonet-related product or having updated a product
in the preceding two years, or having experience as a Coordinator,
Echomail Coordinator or mail or file Hub.
Standing members may be nominated Fidonet-wide by all of the
following methods:
1. Any RC or REC.
2. A nominating committee established for the purpose by the FTSC.
3. A nominating committee established for the purpose by the ZCC.
A nominating committee may not consist of any current member or
officer of the FTSC.
Standing members are appointed on the basis of a vote by all RCs and
RECs who are nodelisted as holding those positions at the time the
nominations are published. A successful candidate must receive
approval by a majority of votes.
Publication of the nomination and the voting procedure, and posting
of RC and REC votes, shall take place openly in the FTSC_PUBLIC
echo, and voting shall close three weeks after publication of the
vote.
In accordance with FTA-1001 3.2.2 I hereby appoint a nominating
committee that, with the exceoption of the FTSC administrator,
consists of the FTSC members who's term ended on august 17 and who
have indicated to be available for another term.

The status of RC's and REC's will be determined by nodelist.268 as
issued by the ZC in the zone where they reside.
All RCs, RECs and members of the nominating committee are hereby
invited to nominate members. Nominations may be posted in the
FTSC_PUBLIC echo or in netmail/e-mail to the FTSC adminstrator.
(2:2/20, 2:280/5555 or administrator at ftsc dot org) Nominations
received by netmail or e-mail will be posted in FTSC_PUBLIC.
Nominations start at Sunday, September 27, 2009. 20:00 UTC and end at
Sunday October 18th 2009, 20:00 UTC.
Nominators are advised to sound out prospective nominees before filing
a nomination. There is little or no point in nominating someone that
has not shown interest and expressed willingness to accept. Members of
the FTSC appointed nominating committee may self nominate,

How to Submit an Article
If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
will appear in the Fidonews:
a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
probably quite OK. No line may be longer than 70 characters.
b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
personal comments.
c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 22:00 UTC.
Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
extension of the correct subject on the file name if known.

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.
If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.
