EDITORIAL
=================================================================
Finally, after years of nagging on my TelCo, I've got ADSL installed.
What that means, primarily, to our readers, is that those of you with
internet connection (at first BinkP is required) can order a
subscription sent to you directly from the Snooze HQ.
Subscription application is best sent via Fidonet netmail, since
internet e-mail from unknown senders can easily get lost in the spam
filter here. Remember to enclose a password for the TIC file, and, if
so wanted, for the session.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
=================================================================
Dear Editor,
This column seemed like a good idea. With the Guest Editorial,
Editorial and the other sections in the Fidonews that aren't used,
another section can't hurt. :)
I'm writing this just to test out the area... and maybe see something
in the Fidonews other than the software listings and other regular
articles.
Those that figure out who this is will know that I seldom write short
stories. I tend to over explain and state everything. Long winded? I
guess so. Anyway...
I wonder what is wrong with the Fidonews Publication? Why are there
few, if any, articles written and published? I hear stories that the
editor refuses articles based on personal opinions and other things. I
hope this isn't true.
Could it be that it is simply easier to write in the echo than to
write an article? Could people really assume that all readers of the
Fidonews Publication are also in the Fidonews echo? That sounds
absurd. It would be like the belief that all Sysops are reading
FN_SYSOP..... Come to think of it, I read messages in some echos and
when I ask about them, I get told that the "discussion" (term used
lightly) is in FN_SYSOP. It seems that I am assumed to be a reader of
that echo. I guess it is reasonable to assume that all readers of the
Fidonews Publication are also readers of the Fidonews echo. What do
you think?
Ah well... It won't matter soon. The minority that speaks for the
majority will soon close Fidonet and we can all get back to running
our BBS, right? What!? You mean that most Sysops don't run a BBS?!?!
Does that mean that they are simply users with a Node number? Could it
really be that there are Sysops that don't provide the service of a
BBS to the public? Would that mean that these people have a Node
number simply for the bragging rights? Tell me it isn't so!
I suppose it is possible that someone would go through all the
trouble to configure a whole Fidonet setup just to get a Node number
and be able to participate in the super secret Sysop echos. Maybe
that's why the super secret Sysop echos seem to be the ones with the
most traffic? Ah well... I guess it looks good on their resume'?
I guess I've rambled enough for now. Maybe I'll write some more later
if the urge hits. I hope you have a great day! At least you have an
article to publish.
[Editor's note:]
Needless to say, no articles ever get rejected for personal
FIDONEWS 21-14 Page 3 5 Apr 2004
reasons. In fact, so far, for more than 100 issues, only one article
has been rejected, and that was because the article contained several
personal attacks on a fellow sysop, and I'm sure no reader wants the
Snooze to become a forum for bashings -- surely we already have far
too much of that in our echoes?

FIDONEWS INFORMATION
=================================================================
How to Submit an Article
If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
will appear in the Fidonews:
a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
probably quite OK. No line may be longer than 70 characters.
b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
personal comments.
c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 12:00 UTC.
Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
extension of the correct subject on the file name if known..
Ideas for Subject areas:

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.
If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.
