FOOD FOR THOUGHT
=================================================================
There are those of us who are always about to live. We are waiting
until things change, until there is more time, until we are less
tired, until we get a promotion, until we settle down -- until, until,
until. It always seems as if there is some major event that must occur
in our lives before we begin living.

GENERAL ARTICLES
=================================================================
"IN CONCERT"
by Ward Dossche @ 2:292/854
When something good is out on the internet then it certainly is
worthwhile mentioning here.
Just discovered this lovely sub-site on the controversial webpages of
the "Banana Club"... excerpts from old live-concerts and us old bags
really love that old kind of music where musicians still knew how to
play an instrument and singers had a voice. No video-clips, no rappers
... just the real stuff.
The exact address to consult is:
http://www.banana-club.org/in-concert
Every Thursday the track is changed into something new. The latest
artists to be seen performing were:
France Gall "Ella elle l'a" (French)
Dire Straits Brothers in arms
John Denver Annie's song
... and currently ... Tina Turner with "Private Dancer". Rumour has it
that some serious surfin' is on its way as well.
So just sit back, relax and enjoy the anarchism while it lasts.

FIDONET SOFTWARE REVIEWS
=================================================================
Meltdown BBS - a shameless plug
Petko Bossakov (2:350/5)
Greetings, my fellow sysops!
With this article I would like to bring to your attention a Fidonet
software project of mine. The idea for it came up last summer, and I
started coding it in October.
You may have seen all those CGI scripts on the Internet that claim to
be a "BBS" but are in fact nothing more than a simple web-based
message board. This has nothing to do with the definition of BBS
that all of us are used to.
Therefore, I figured that what the world needs is a script which
provides all the features of a classic BBS (including FTN
connectivity), and is completely web-based. That would help Fidonet
attract more users who prefer the Internet-style interface that
they're comfortable with.
I'm pleased to announce that I've taken the first step into turning
that idea to reality, and now the open source project named
"Meltdown BBS" is up and running. An alpha release is already
available.
Meltdown BBS runs as a set of PHP scripts with a MySQL backend for
the message, file and user databases. This makes it a flexible,
multiplatform system. It can be customized with multiple language
packs and HTML templates. It also has many of the common features of
the classic BBS, including:
- Multiple file and message areas;
- Ability to fine-tune user access privileges;
- Support for a Fidonet-technology network;
- Registration of users by their real name and not by a nickname;
As I am writing this, my station (2:350/5) is running Meltdown BBS
1.0 alpha 3. It still has some bugs, but I am successfully using it
to read and write netmail and echomail.
I would really appreciate it if any sysops would wish to test
the system and send in their bug reports, feature requests, praises
and suggestions - and maybe even join the project as coders, web
designers, translators, graphic artists, etc. If you are interested,
please visit the project's website at
http://meltdown-bbs.sourceforge.net. Any comments will
be accepted by netmail at 2:350/5, or by email at pbosakov@yahoo.com.
Thank you all, and have a fantastic year 2004!

FIDONEWS INFORMATION
=================================================================
How to Submit an Article
If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
will appear in the Fidonews:
a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
probably quite OK. No line may be longer than 70 characters.
b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
personal comments.
c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 12:00 UTC.
Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
extension of the correct subject on the file name if known..
Ideas for Subject areas:

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.
If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.
