There is no course of life so weak and sottish as that which is
managed by order, method, and discipline.

TRUE CHILDREN'S STORIES
wdbonner@pacbell.net
For those who have grown children, this is hilarious & horrendous.
For those who have children, this is not funny, it is a warning.
For those who have not yet had children, this is birth control.
For Fidonetters it is exemplary of some people in some echoes.
__________________________________________________
The following came from an anonymous Mother in Austin, Texas:
Things I've learned from my Children (honest & no kidding):
1. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft.
house 2 inches deep.
2. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with
roller blades, they can ignite.
3. A 3-year old's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded
restaurant.
4. If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong
enough to rotate a 42 pound boy wearing Batman underwear and a
Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can,
to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.
5. You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When
using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few
times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long
way.
6. The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit
by a ceiling fan.
7. When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh," it's already
too late.
8. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.
9. A six-year old can start a fire with a flint rock even though a
36-year old man says they can only do it in the movies.
10. Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year
old.
11. Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.
12. Super glue is forever.
FIDONEWS 20-19 Page 3 12 May 2003
13. No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still
can't walk on water.
14. Pool filters do not like Jell-O.
15. VCR's do not eject PB&J sandwiches even though TV commercials show
they do.
16. Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.
17. Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.
18. You probably do not want to know what that odor is.
19. Always look in the oven before you turn it on. Plastic toys do
not like ovens.
20. The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5-minute response time.
21. The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms
dizzy.
22. It will, however, make cats dizzy.
23. Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.
24. If you wake up and find a suddenly green fish tank with all your
fish floating upside down, you will soon realize that your 3 year old
has gotten up in the middle of the night and emptied all the fish food
and chemicals into the tank. His way of saying you shouldn't have
turned off the TV.
25. The mind of a 6-year old is wonderful. First grade...true story:
One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of the Three
Little Pigs to her class. She came to the part of the story where the
first pig was trying to accumulate the building materials for his
home. She read, "...And so the pig went up to the man with the
wheelbarrow full of straw and said, 'Pardon me sir, but may I have
some of that straw to build my house?'" The teacher paused then asked
the class, "And what do you think that man said?" One little boy
raised his hand and said, "I think he said...'Holy sh*t! A talking
pig!'" The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes.
26. 60% of men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake
fluid, to see if they can make as much 'smoke' and delusion as some
loquacious self appointed intellectuals try to do daily in some of the
Fidonet echoes. 8^))
Warn regards,
Ol'wdb

CLEAN HUMOUR & JOKES

Europeans <G>
wdbonner@pacbell.net
A curious fellow died one day and found himself waiting in the long
line of judgment. As he stood there he noticed that some souls were
allowed to march right through the pearly gates into Heaven. Others
though, were led over to Satan who threw them into the burning pit.
But every so often, instead of hurling a poor soul into the fire,
Satan would toss a soul off to one side into a small pile. After
watching Satan do this several times, the fellow's curiosity got the
best of him.
So he strolled over and asked Satan what he was doing. "Excuse me,
Prince of Darkness," he said. "I'm waiting in line for judgment, but I
couldn't help wondering, why are you tossing those people aside
instead of flinging them into the Fires of Hell with the others?"
"Ah, those," Satan said with a groan.
"They're all from France, Germany and the Balkans, They're still too
cold and wet to burn."
>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<
After Life of Sister Margaret
Sister Margaret was a model nun all of her life, until she was called
to get her just rewards. As she approached the pearly gates, Saint
Peter said "Hold on, Sister Margaret...not so fast!"
"But I have been good all my life and dedicated to the work of the
Lord. From the time I was taken in as an infant by the sisters at the
convent to my dying breath... I have lived for this moment!" Sister
Margaret exclaimed in disbelief.
"That is precisely the problem," replied St. Peter, "...you never
learned right from wrong and to get into heaven, you must know the
difference between right and wrong".
"Well, what can I do? I will do anything to get into heaven!" Sister
Margaret pleaded.
"I am going to have to send you back down to Earth. When you get
there, I want you to smoke a cigarette and call me when you are
finished. We will discuss your situation then." ordered St. Peter.
Sister Margaret returned to Earth, smoked a Camel, and then
immediately called St. Peter, coughing and hacking. "Saint Peter" she
gasped, "I can hardly breathe, my mouth tastes terrible, my breath
stinks, I feel dizzy, and I think I am going to throw up".
FIDONEWS 20-19 Page 5 12 May 2003
"Good!" replied the old saint, "Now you are finally getting a feel
for right and wrong. Now go out tonight and drink some hard liquor and
call me back when you are ready."
Sister Margaret phoned St. Peter immediately after taking Jack
Daniels. "Saint Peter, I feel woozy... that vile liquid burned my
throat and nauseated me...it is all I can do to keep it down."
"Good...good! Now you are starting to see the difference between
right and wrong," said St. Peter with delight.
"Tomorrow I want you to seek out a man and know him in the Biblical
sense, and then call me."
A week passed before Sister Margaret called St. Peter and left a
message: "Yo, Pete...it's Marg...It's gonna be a while!"

God grant me
God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do like, and the eyesight to
tell the difference.
Now that I'm 'older' (but never to grow up), here's what I've
discovered:
I. I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.
2. My wild oats have turned into prunes and All Bran.
3. I finally got my head together; now my body is falling apart.
4. Funny, I don't remember being absent minded.
5. All reports are in; life is now officially unfair.
6. If all is not lost, where is left of it?
7. It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.
8. Some days you're the dog; some days you're the hydrant.
9. I wish the buck stopped here; I sure could use a few...
10. Kids in the back seat cause accidents.
11. Accidents in the back seat cause kids.
12. It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere.
13. The only time the world beats a path to your door is when you're
in the bathroom.
14. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would have put them on my
FIDONEWS 20-19 Page 6 12 May 2003
knees.
15. When I'm finally holding all the cards, why does everyone decide
to play chess?
16. It's not hard to meet expenses... they're everywhere.
17. The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.
18. These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the hereafter, I
go somewhere to get something and then wonder what I'm here after.
19. I AM UNABLE TO REMEMBER IF I HAVE MAILED THIS TO YOU OR NOT!!!
HOPE YOU LIKE DUPLICATES!!!
20. Funny, I don't remember being, . . . absent minded...

Gratitude
----[ POL_INC ]--------------------------------------------
On: Sun 4 May 2003 7.44
By: Don Martin
-----------------------------------------------------------
In counselling, expectations of gratitude are regarded as a
classic symptom of a dysfunctional relationship. Significantly eldest
siblings (oldest kids at least 5 years senior to the next eldest)
often grow up feeling that they have given up their own childhoods to
help raise their little brothers and sisters. It typically rankles
them that those little brothers and sisters are not grateful to them
for that sacrifice. However, those little brothers and sisters tend to
be unaware of all that -- they were little kids at the time, after
all, getting the care all little kids need. To them, it is immaterial
what the source of that care may be so long as their bellies are fed,
their clothing on, and their arses wiped. Of course, to have a chance
of growing up healthy enough to know what gratitude is and when it is
appropriate, they need a good deal more parenting than that, but is
enough to keep them alive and with their upbringing, they will mostly
never know the difference.
And that is about as much as eldest siblings are capable of
providing. To know more than feeding, clothing, and cleaning (and
spanking, of course -- they are often pretty good at spanking), they
also need more real parenting themselves to grow up healthy enough,
etc. They tend to form the self-image of the unappreciated caretaker,
muttering into his beer (many of these children do manage to grow up
to be alcoholics, not surprisingly, since that is often the reason for
their parents not being available to parent), "I've worked my fingers
to the bone for them, and what do I get for it?"
The US, like a young teen thrust into the role of pseudo-parent,
has been defining itself ever since independence. We contain too much
diversity to have any national knowledge of how to be ourselves, as
the Basques, the French, the Chinese, the English, etc. do. Containing
all of these, and a good many more besides, we have not been
"parented" as a nation by a clear set of cultural expectations. We
have instead tended to reject many such sets as being "too old
country". We take pride in constantly redefining ourselves (another
symptom of dysfunction is erecting coping mechanisms into something to
be proud of), and we look down our noses at nations who do not
redefine themselves in the same way we do. We were going to win the
hearts and minds of the Vietnamese, we are going to bring democracy to
Iraq, and we are always yearning to bring other countries into the
21st century. Unappreciated caretakers, we know how to feed, to
clothe, to clean -- and to spank.
We want to spank the Iraqis for not seeing our war there in quite
the same light as we do and being grateful for our efforts and
sacrifices. We want to spank the French for not being grateful enough
FIDONEWS 20-19 Page 8 12 May 2003
about D-Day to send troops and money to our splendid little adventure
to save the Arab world, and we want to spank the UN for not being
grateful enough for our parenting (aren't _we_ were the ones who
practically created the UN?) to serve as a rubber stamp for US
interests -- after all (pseudo-)Daddy knows best! Some days, we want
to spank the whole world for its failure to see our trvth and for its
lack of gratitude for all we have done for them.
As a country, we are dysfunctional, muttering into our beer, "I've
worked my fingers to the bone for them, and what do I get for it?" If
we are very lucky, we may get over it and really grow up at last.
I am not holding my breath.

FIDONEWS INFORMATION
=================================================================
How to Submit an Article
If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
will appear in the Fidonews:
a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
probably quite OK...
b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
personal comments.
c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 12:00 UTC.
Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
extension of the correct subject on the file name if known..
Ideas for Subject areas:

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.
If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.
